Described
as Middle Eastern Trance Rock from Outer Space, psomni incorporates
a variety of instruments to create its unique sound. Analog
synths, casio keyboards, baritone & c-melody saxophones,
flutes, and cello help accent the core drum and bass rhythms.
The band explores the voice as an experimental instrument through
the use of effects processors as well as foreign languages,
such as Albanian and Japanese.
Influenced
by jazz, rock, ethnic and experimental music, psomni strives
to break new ground like artists such as Joy Division, Portishead,
Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Brian Eno, Miles Davis, The Teargarden,
Swans, and Massive Attack.
psomni
released minimalism on Spat!
Records in late 2001 to warm reviews in the press from magazines
like Razorcake (Formerly Flipside), Performer Magazine, and
Freq (UK). They received airplay on numerous college radio stations,
online radio stations, and charted on CMJ for several weeks
(7 weeks in Nashville,
the bands hometown, peeking at #6 on
91.1 WRVU). The song Bimidbar has been picked up by
XM Satellite Radio and receives daily airplay across the
country. XM also featured the band on its RADAR Report- a weekly
show that highlights the nations up and coming bands.
psomni
will release their second album, Mechanics of Mind, this Spring.
